The concept is simple : every day, we ask to a sample of healthcare professionals around the world the following question :
“In your opinion and related to your medical practice, what is the most interesting initiative that a pharmaceutical and/or medical device manufacturer has implemented within the past 30 days?”
After a year of polling, we have gathered the responses of 5,359 Healthcare professionals from 29 countries – Asia, Americas, Europe.
And the winners are :
Novartis, Sanofi and Pfizer
It is interesting to note that no one company commands the market in terms of innovation. Novartis ranks number one, but with only 7% of the votes. It takes 20 companies to gather 70% of the votes, and our final list contained more than 100 mentions.
If the initiatives most frequently mentioned are still "classic" (CME, New product, Sales reps visits), iphones and tablet apps are getting a lot of attention from physicians, in particular the IBGStar from Sanofi (http://www.ibgstar.us), and Pfizer engage from Pfizer (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pfizerengage/id436325322?mt=8)
Looking at the graph below, it seems that developing the right app is anybody's best bet : Not only does it increase significantly the company image among physicians, but it can also be a revenue generator.
Sanofi represents the best success story with IBGStar, an FDA approved glucosemeter that plugs in your iphone.
It would however be necessary to develop an android version to tap into the emerging markets where diabetes prevalence is growing, and the number of potential users counts in hundreds of millions.
